Evaluation of Taylor's Living on Lake Time

Evaluator Participants

Brittany is a young lady that attends our church. She is married, expecting her first child, and is an elementary teacher. I have known her for years and know that she is an outdoor person who enjoys camping, boating, fishing, and hunting. She is technology literate and able to utilize all resources for her classroom and students. Brittany used a Windows 8 operating system, and viewed the site in the Google Chrome browser.

Stan is a middle aged man that enjoys everything outdoors. He has his own definite point of view and can be objective, even though he is my husband. Stan is a Deputy with the Sheriff's department, and uses technology to gain information, write reports, and email. Outside of his job requirements, he doesn't use technology other than Google or Youtube when working on projects. Stan used a Windows 8.1 operating system, and viewed the site in the Google Chrome browser.

Joyce is a retired business teacher, and is comfortable with basic technology. Although she can no longer be considered advanced, she navigates well through technology as she used to teach it. She lives on a farm and is very active in church. Joyce has a camper on a river lot and enjoys spending her spare time there. Joyce used a Windows 8 operating system, and viewed the site in the Internet Explorer browser.

Brittany loved the color scheme and found the site easy to navigate and read. She found the content relevant and important information for anyone wanting to visit Bull Shoals Lake. Brittany thought the creator of this website took the time to make this website fun and informational without breaking any copyright laws; with originality and creativity being present throughout this site.

Stan felt the design caught his attention, which made him to want to check it out. He thought the content was very informative and the photos made him want to go to the lake. Stan also thought that as a person who enjoys the Lake, and knows how Lake life can be, there is no doubt that the photos and information are authentic. Stan predicted that anyone who has experienced the Lake would relate and all copyright laws seemed to be followed.

Joyce found the site very easy to read and that colors matched the purpose. She found the links easy to use and "very appropriate" and her favorite page was "Shopping" (but did not state why). Joyce recognized that there were no copyright issues and the information seems valid.

Use Cases

The Use Cases were addressed and implemented with this site's creation. Users should enjoy this site if that is their interest according to the sampling group that included who consisted of different age and gender groups. This was also reinforced by the peer views.

Recommended/Planned Changes to the Design

Reflecting on the evaluations and surveys, I felt that I needed to have a bigger draw than just the upcoming events. I thought about logging/writing about the experiences we did each time we were there and providing pictures. To do this in a traditional web page didn't seem the most practical or efficient to me. So I created a blog that is easily updated, listed as a link on every page of my website, and has a link on the blog page back to the website. It seems to work well for both the user's interest and the adding of data.

Reflections on the Evaluation Process

The most helpful information came from the survey and the experienced developer's testing. I gained a lot from utilizing the different demographics of potential users. I was concerned about the colors they felt would represent this type of site, but after creating the design I totally agreed with them about the "presence" it established. The peer developer's provided needed testing and perspective because sometimes you work on something so hard and have spent so many hours on it, you can't look at things objectively. I know that without both of these inputs my website would not have been as well designed.
